This evening I was lucky enough to attend an intimate (30 guests) gourmet four-course meal at a gourmet food and spirits retailer, Vine & Table, here in Carmel, Indiana. Each course of the meal was expertly paired with some (very) rare single malt scotch offerings from scotch whisky specialists Gordon & MacPhail by Vine & Table's executive chef for their catering service, Kahns.

I found my father was doing research on fine malt scotch and had brought home bottles of Springbank 10, Lagavulin 16, Glenmorangie Maderia Finish, Balvenie 15, and Talisker 10. I will probably review all of these in turn, however I'll just tell you now, I found Talisker to be wonderful, and my favorite of those (and it still stands as such). I found and located a local liquor store that carried better brands and top spirits, and found the Irish section. Original and Black Bush were of course present, and Black Bush was selling for $32 for a 750. However next to it was Malt 10 selling for $35 for a 750. This wasn't brain surgery. I'll always take a single malt if I can! Thus I got my first bottle of Bushmills Malt 10.

Pusser's British Navy Rum is billed as the authentic British Navy rum. Upon the bottle it is stated as "Naturally full and rich. This is the big brother to regular Crown Royal (is that even possible?). Special Reserve is apparently a more select, rarer, older blending of the legendary Canadian import. Crown Royal's website informs that select casks of their best whiskies are identified early and then set aside to mature specifically for later crafting the SR blend. Besides that, SR comes in a slightly taller, more distinctive bottle than the squat crown-shaped bottle of regular Crown Royal.
